2011 Australian Duathlon Series

After the successful launch of the Australian Duathlon Series in 2010, Triathlon Queensland and the other seven State and Territory Triathlon Associations (in conjunction with Triathlon Australia) are pleased to announce an 8 race duathlon series for 2011, featuring a high quality duathlon event hosted by each state and territory.

The Lockyer Valley Duathlon is the second stop of the National Series and will have $6,000 of prizemoney as an enticer for those wanting to participate in the full distance Duathlon.  This race also acts as the first race of the TQ State Series for 2011-2012.  This event will be held at the scenic Gatton for the third year running and the local council have entusiastically come on board to fully support the annual running of this event. 

ITU Duathlete Raf Baugh will again be travelling from Western Australia for the event and will be bringing more of his mates for the adventure, "Triathlon Queensland and the Lockyer Valley Council have done a great job putting on such an event to showcase a regional area.  I'm looking forward to getting back over there and competing in this leg of the Australian Duathlon Series".

The Series has a vineyard theme this year, starting the “Grape Escape” in the Hunter Valley of NSW and finishing with a flourish in the Barossa Valley which will host the Grand Final of the Series.  The Barossa race will also serve as the 2011 Australian National Duathlon Championships.

Participants in the series will accrue points to determine the Australian Duathlon Series Champion in each age group. Points accrued during the series will also be used to determine qualification for the 2012 Australian Age Group team for the Duathlon World Championships.  Age Group Series prizes will be of high quality, reflecting the “wine and vineyard” theme of the Grand Final location.

These races have been selected to provide a varied series making use of attractive venues which will enable participants to plan some winter travel to different areas of Australia. In addition to providing a race of standard duathlon distance, each event will also host a race of a shorter distance, offering an opportunity for those new to the sport to experience a duathlon.  The Lockyer Valley Duathlon 2011 will feature the full & sprint distance, 2 kids races and the Gatton Grunt 5km, 2.5km and 1km Fun Run's.  Entries are now open for the Lockyer Valley Duathlon and can be accessed here
