27 October 2008 : Youth Olympics Head Coach - Queenslander
The 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) Triathlon event will be conducted on Friday 16th
(Individual Race) and Saturday 17th (Team Relay) January 2009. The AYOF Opening Ceremony will
be on Wednesday 14th January. The AYOF is being hosted at the Sydney Regatta Centre, Penrith NSW.
Countries Competing in the AYOF Triathlon are:
- Australia x2
- Canada
- Germany
- Great Britain
- Japan
- New Zealand
- Russia
- South Africa
- ITU Sport Development Team
The Australian athletes competing in the 2009 AYOF will be selected following the 2XU Super
Sprint Race Weekend (12-14 December 2008) at Runaway Bay, QLD. Athletes must be aged 16-19
years of age as at 31 Dec 2009 (born 1990-1993).
The AYOF Triathlon Background
Triathlon was first contested at the 2001 AYOF with a young Emma Snowsill winning gold. Seven
years on, and Snowsill wins the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
